I am saddened with the news of George's passing. My thoughts are with you.
I have been reflecting on this loss. As I internalize my mourning process I keep traveling back to my years at the College of Fisheries and my interaction with two great men that were instrumental and crucial pillars that ultimately shaped the start of my professional life. George Pigott and John Halver. Two great leaders and visionaries in their respective and overlapping fields. I think of these men as icons of their Great Generation!
George was always the example of generosity and practicality. He helped shape my rational thinking process. I recall him as warm, humorous and above all, generous with his time and guidance. I remember receiving one summer, while working on a salmon tender in the Berring Sea, a notice that George had submitted my name to a scholarship fund that I was ultimately awarded and how much that helped me complete my Master's program.
I will forever remember and celebrate the life that he led; and at my my age of 58, am in awe of the number of people's lives that he helped shape and influence. He touched my life and continues to inspire me to give back and help whenever I can upcoming youngster as they embark on the journey of their careers. He will always have a place in my heart.
Your friend,
-jose
