Georgia Culbert Obituary

Georgia Helphrey CULBERT Georgia passed away January 24 in her 99th year. Georgia was born on October 18, 1912 in Wichita, Kansas - the youngest daughter of Georgia and Ollie Helphrey. As a youth she moved with her family to Emmett, Idaho. Graduating in 1931, she played basketball on the 1930 and '31 Emmett H.S. Idaho State Champion teams. Her dream of attending medical school was dashed by The Depression as the med. schools were not accepting women students. Thus, she enrolled in the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane. Graduating as President of the Class of 1935, Georgia began her 50+ year career as a registered nurse. Upon graduation she married the love of her life, Corneilus (Neil) Culbert. The Culberts left Spokane for Seattle in the early 40's. After Neil's death in 1973, she was semi-retired and became a "Snow Bird" resident in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area of Arizona. In her final 2 years she was fortunate to live with Michelle, John and Darren at the Edmonds Jasmine Home and re- ceive care with Bellevue Hospice Co. Georgia was predeceased by Neil, Michael (elder son), parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. Survivors include son, Tim and the extended Helphrey/Culbert families in which she served as matriarch. Georgia loved God, her family, kitties, gardens, wild life, being a nurse and Edgar Martinez. At her request there are no services. Georgia would be honored by folks following her example of reaching out to those who are less fortunate than she.
