Memories and Condolences
for Gerald Gordon

Not sure what to say?

My heart goes out to you Kathy and your beautiful family.
I didn't really know Gerry except for our brief visit at the Rainier Beach class reunion.
The love you both shared is something of sheer joy, that very few couples can hold for all the 50 years you enjoyed.
I feel so honored to have met you Gerry and thank you for all the wonderful memories you made possible for all of us at the reunions of Rainier Beach and Franklin High Schools.

Go with God and know you are loved forever. My prayers are with you.

Gerry and I became friends and competitors from our first day on the playground in 5th grade. We were bonded by a special connection through sports, school and similar family experiences. As teammates, we competed against the best of them. He blocked for me, caught for me and always made me smile. He had a hug for me and my wife Pam at our last reunion that I shall always cherish. Our hearts are with Kathy and family during this unexpected loss.

I met Gerry in 2nd grade -- at whitworth, he was the toughest kid in school, could throw perfect spirals, was always quarterback, king of the playground, was funny, kind, looked after everyone...never saw him after we moved to mercer island but never forgot him and always looked forward to running into him. I knew he'd still be funny, real and insightful.

I am sure that Gerry's passing is being felt by many people who were blessed to have him in their lives. He had a special way of showing people they were welcome and important. One simple way he did that with me was that he always remembered I like to drink diet crush soda- to the extent of handing me one every time I walked in the door. It was such a thoughtful gesture but only shows one of many wonderful aspects of his character. My thoughts and sympathy are with all of the friends and family who are hurting from this loss.

I only met Jerry recently and he always seemed to radiate warmth and inclusion. I will miss his smile and seeing him very much. He had many reasons to love and support his extraordinary wife Kathy and I am sure that he did. I am very very sorry he has passed away.

Gerry has been a friend for over 50 years...one that has contributed to every major event in our lives from when we got married, birthdays, weddings, including multiple vacations and get togethers. From our wedding to our surprise 70th birthday party in December, Gerry has made every event extra special by always being the first to grab the mic and roast us in every possible way making the crowd roar with laughter at our expense..We loved every minute of it and one of the things we will miss most. Love to all of you Kathy and family...

Kathy- the Sovdes were very sorry to learn of Gerry's passing. He will be sorely missed.

We had many good times with Gerry- in Las Vegas, at celebratory meals, and on the golf course. We remember him as a kind, mentoring man with a sharp wit and a quick smile.

He was a man of strong morals and ethics who knew the right path forward and had the courage to pursue it. We see these traits living on in your wonderful children and grandchildren- we are all better people for having known Gerry.

With Love,
Geoff and Kerry Sovde

Kathy , My heart is with you ,Brad, Paige, and your entire family. I will cherish the (many, many)great times that I had with Gerry throughout my life. Sports at Franklin HS, fishing trips to Canada, my van he named Ido Vani, my dog Baron Gerry got for me from Bud, Annual FHS Golf tournaments where he was our official score-keeper. The memories will never end, and He will always be in my heart.

I remember meeting a man who was a kind and generous soul, much like my own father. Gerry made many of the family events so warm and everyone welcome.

Growing up, I can remember thinking how much I "loved my Dads friend Gerry", how he felt like a hilariously loving Uncle you always wanted around you. He was always so incredibly interested in how things were going in my life and with my family and you could just tell he truly "Cared" when he asked you how you were doing. Anytime I thought I was going to see Gerry on any given day was such an exciting one and always a fond memory I will hold in my heart always. No one could warm your heart or make you laugh or be a better friend or look out for you like this special man...love you Ger, and I love all of you in the family, you are a second family to us and I am so incredibly sorry for your loss....Carmen

I still remember all the fond memories of our times in Nagoya Japan with your entire family. Paige and I were so young back then. Remember when our dads took us to meet the Queen? We were the only American girls there, priceless memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. Now both Gerrry and my dad will continue to watch over our families as our Guardian Angels. Our deepest condolences go out to you & your entire family.

Haven't seen, or talked to Gerry in 50+ years, but I am profoundly saddened by the news of his death. I grew up three houses down the street from him on Bennett St. He was sort of a legend in the neighborhood. Great athlete, funny and irreverent as hell. Tough guy with a big heart. My folks loved him. RIP Gerry.
