Gerry Andal Obituary

Gerry ANDAL There is another 'Ghost Rider in the Sky' now as Gerry Andal, beloved husband, son, dad, grampa, brother and friend to so many, passed away on March 11, 2011, due to complications from heart surgery.

Born April 18, 1943, in Melfort, Saskatchewan, Gerry's biggest passions as a youngster were sports and music. He excelled in both. He came to Seattle on a full scholarship to play football at the University of Washington, where he also earned a degree in finance.

Afterward, he moved on to the University of Michigan to earn his MBA. He then worked for Ford Motor Company in Detroit and then Denver, before returning to the Northwest where, with the help of his father-in-law, Bill Gazecki, he opened Gerry Andal Lincoln-Mercury in Burien at age 29. It was the first of many businesses both in the car and restaurant industries that bore his name.

Gerry was incredibly involved in the community and lived for the opportunity to serve others. Over the years, he coached dozens of youth football teams in the Seattle, Federal Way, and Arlington areas. He was one of the founding members of Big Brothers and Sisters of Snohomish County, and Equifriends, a program that introduces handicapped kids to horses and horsemanship. In addition, Gerry served on the boards of the Everett Chamber of Commerce and the Washington Restaurant Association.

A talented entertainer, Gerry opened for many big acts over the years including: Johnny Cash, Reba McIntyre and many others. Additionally, for over 20 years, he hosted a few different versions of his own country music TV show. He was also known to show up, just him and his guitar, to sing at senior citizens homes, and bring joy to others. The shows, parades, fundraising events that he gave his time freely to over the years are too numerous to count.

Gerry is survived by his wife Rhonda, sons, Greg and Kevin, daughter Ashley, mother of his sons, Sharon, sisters Margene, Valerie, and Shirley, brother Vern, all of their families, as well as many beloved grandchildren.

Gerry was a shining star that stopped burning earlier than anyone expected. Those that met him will tell you his star burned incredibly bright, with a great passion for life, a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone. He, too, would tell you he lived an amazing life. Gone too soon, he packed a massive life into his 68 years.

Rest in peace, Gerry. The world was a better place with you in it. We all share your stardust.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Providence Hospital, who worked so valiantly trying to revive him and who were incredibly kind and compassionate in our time of huge loss.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gerry's favorite organizations: Everett Youth Hockey League, Stanwood Therapeutic Riding, Greater Everett Community Foundation, The Bob Drewel Human Services Scholarship Fund.

A public memorial will be held on Sunday, March 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at Comcast Arena in the Grand Ball Room, 2000 Hewitt Avenue, Everett, WA 98201.

Gerry was a special man and I hold his friendship especially dear. It was at the Longhorn that I met my late husband, Doug Streib and for that I will be eternally grateful. The Longhorn and the Ranch hold so many dear memories. I will never forget Gerrys kindness and hospitality. His memory lives on in my heart. My thoughts go out to the Andal family as we all remember Gerry on the anniversary on his passing.

What a great man ! Have thought about him often. He treated everyone as if they were his best friend . The last time we saw him was at his restaurant in Starwood . We had dinner and stayed to hear him entertain . He spent a lot of time talking with us and dedicated a couple of songs to Sue ! Gerry is one of those special people that you do not forget !

"Lou," that is what Gerry's high school friends call him. Lou and I go back to grade school in Regina Sask. We were together through our years at U of W and beyond. I continually think about Lou and all the crazy thinks we did through the years. Lou was a close friend, We shared many personal thoughts and feelings over the years. Being the leader he was, Lou, was always there to give me guidance when needed, And, I needed it!

I happened to be looking up Gerry's name to see what was new and if he was playing anywhere. I was sadden to see that Gerry had passed away. I wish I had known so I could have attended the memorial. When he had his Ranch restaurant I was a shy person who loved to sing but was to shy. I started going to jam night and got good enough that he would have me get up on a Fri night and sing God made Oklahoma or Jose Quervo. I have lost track of them but have never forgotten. I am deeply saddened by the loss of such a wonderful man. Although it has been a year later and the aniversary of his death is coming up my thoughts are with his family.

I was totally at a loss for words when my boyfriend sent me a text and told me we lost such an amazing man. I meet Gerry when I was about 8 or 9 years old as my mom (Terri) and Sister (Missy) worked at the Everett Rest. I remember dancing the night away and he alway sang my song "thunder rolls". I bought my first car from him when I was 17. Im gonna miss him and I wish his family the best and untill we meet again..........

We want to thank the family for allowing the community to be a part of Gerry's service. You did a beautiful job. Greg, your father would be so proud of you. The first time I saw Gerry at the Monroe fair he sang the song he wrote to his father, I was hooked from then on. My husband called him a few years ago and asked him to sing a song for me at the fair as it was our anniversay. He sang Amazing. I was so touched he would do that for me. Hearing all the things he has done for the community makes me aspire to do more for others. He difinitely lived up to the Rotary obligation "service above self". Gerry, you will be missed by all. Thanks for the memories. Rest in Peace!

I believe that for we should be happy for those who have passed on. They no longer have to deal with the incredibly hostile world we live in. they are in a better place and are completely happy. We should let there memories live through our actions and not our sadness. When I die, I hope there are no tears shed, there are no sad thoughts, only memories that make you smile, because I know I'll be I'm heaven.

A true Husky Legend. You don't fine quality individuals like Gerry. Greatness was in his blood whether it was as a husband, father, businessman, or just as a person. He loved life, people, family, friends, and Husky Football. The world has lost a great person and leader.

I'm stunned and saddened. Looking for a link to Gerry's music videos for a Michigan hockey fan here in the Poconos, I came across his obit.

I was lucky to play hockey with Gerry and Alex Hood in Ann Arbor decades ago. I had email conversations with Gerry a few months ago after reading about the Snoopy Tournament games in Santa Rosa. He was such a great person to know, whether holding a hockey stick or a guitar. And it was wonderful to catch up with him again and read the Internet articles about his generous work in the Washington community and the high regard everyone had for him there. There's something particularly special about someone who's generous and giving without pretense, and Gerry was precisely that.

RIP, Big Fella. It was a joy and an honor to know you.

Margene and family,

I was so sorry to read about Gerry's passing. He was so full of life. I remember him with fondness from our days at Balfour. Not only was he in my form, but we had great times at football games and championships, dances and other pranks with George Dobrescu. I still have the silver bracelet he gave me and it will mean so much more now.

Please accept my most sincere condolences and know that he will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Contact me and let me know what's happening in your world. I'm in the phone book in Regina.

Drove past the restaurant tonight. It was so quiet and still. All the flowers mounded against the door from others that have left their condolences. We'll miss your warm and joyous smile. You made us feel like old friends every time we came to have "Girls Night Out" with my little girls at your restaurant. Every time we decided to eat out they always begged to go see Gerry. We will miss you dearly, Friend. Stanwood isn't the same anymore.

So sad, no other words to describe the loss.I met Gerry back in 1987 at the Ranch in south Everett. Learned to love cvountry music listening to him sing with Jerry Pye. Had lots of good times, many dinners, boat trips, trips to Nashville, and Las Vegas. He was a great guy, always kind and had that smile. I've still got the 300 - ZX car he sold metoo. Love that car. Thanks Gerry, for all the memories,

The news of Gerry has been very shocking; especially knowing how active he was. Our family has wonderful memories of Gerry, his band and who can forget the ranch :D My husband frequented the Evt. ranch since he was 16...got his first legal drink there and helped sean get his job with roughriders. I on the other hand frequented the Auburn ranch. Yep, Gerry brought many of us together. Some of us are still good friends and some of us even met our spouses at the ranch. My family has listened to Gerry and the Roughriders play at the Ranch, at camp outs, rodeos and fairs....we even hired him to play at my in-laws 25th wedding anniversary. We closed 2 ranches (Auburn then Evt.) and we helped welcome the Stanwood Ranch....we taught our children to dance on his dance floor....he sold my husbands hat I don't know how many times.....he played our favorite song "big city" and I don't know how many times that damn squirrel went berserk ;) Thanks Gerry for the wonderful memories you help create...thanks to your family who shared you with us.....happy trails until we meet again. Love the Hedeen's (Cooper, Jill, Cody, Katelyn and Cydnie)

We go back a long ways Gerry. You were playing ball at the UW,and dating my close friend Sharon (Moore,at that time).
I recall one night she grabbed my car to run to the hospital,as you had suffered a dilly of a concussion. After the two of you married, I used to come visit you both; we drank beer and you played the guitar. Sadly, I have not seen you much since those days, however I've had many years and memories with Sharon,Kevin and Greg.
You leave behind a beautiful legacy and memories for a life time with those who loved you. Since I heard of your passing,I have daily vivid pictures in my head and heart of you and your horse riding through the skies, both with gloriously spread wings and both adorning coy boy hats.
P.S. I heard that the angels in Heaven all sing COUNTRY!

Gerry hired me to sing and play at the Ranch, and I met my wife, Eve, of 25 years there.
He was a kind and generous man who gave me some breaks when I really needed them.
He always sang a song for me when I came to his clubs. It was a song he wrote called Amazing.
Gerry was an amazing guy, and he had a God given spirit in him that he was not afraid to share.
I look forward to seeing him again on the shores of eternity.

Like so many, I too learned much from Gerry. He was so giving of himself and his time. I feel very fortunate to have been able to sing with him and his band, and receive advice from him regarding music, singing, and being on stage. He showed what is means to 'support' and 'give back', and did so in so many different avenues of his life. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. You're truly blessed Gerry. Thank you for blessing so many.

The first time I met Gerry was at his restaurant in Everett; a bunch of us from KRKO Radio got together there & he let me get up & sing with his band! He was such a NICE man! Everytime I'd see him he made me feel special, ya know? He just had that way about him! Ted & I visited his restaurant in Stanwood right after he took over & he treated us like royalty! And who can forget him singing his Canadian Anthem on horseback at the Rodeos followed by Dancin'In The Dirt!? Gerry you will be missed! Gerry Andal Was and is one of the biggest influences in my life and career as a country singer. I was 15 years old when I met him, he would get me up on stage with his band and teach me about entertaining. He gave my my first job washing dishes in his restaurant, often times i would be on the clock and he would have me hanging out with him in his office where we would talk heart to heart about life, and music. He helped keep me focused while i was a typical troubled teen! lol I learned so much about the kind of man/entertainer I wanted to be. Thank you Gerry, I miss you! Btw.. for any Gerry Andal fans, I wrote a song for him, I think he would be proud! I wont put a link on here but look on reverb nation for marlin james and you can download it for free. God Bless!

I first meet "Lou" when we were in grade school in Regina Sask. Canada. We attended high school and University together. I recognized early that Lou was a born leader both on and off the football field and hockey rink. Gerry had a great sense of humor which aloud him to really enjoy life.
