Harold Adler Obituary

Harold "Marc" ADLER St. George, UT - Harold "Marc" Adler passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, April 27th. He was 84 years old. Throughout his life, Marc was known for his kindness, optimism and out-going personality. He truly loved his family and his friends. Marc was born to loving parents, Abraham and Agusta Adler, in New York City on July 7, 1926. He moved to Los Angeles in 1937 and was a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles. Marc loved to learn and pursued his education through medical school. He earned his Doctorate in Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee in 1950. As an Optometrist, Marc helped countless numbers of people improve their lives through better vision. He often donated his time, energy, knowledge and resources to help those less fortunate. From an early age, Marc understood the value of service and freedom. During World War II, he was a member of the United States Naval forces and served aboard the USS Lexington in the Pacific theater of Operations. Marc loved to dance. He taught for Arthur Murray while attending UCLA. In his later years, you could often find him swinging to big bands at the local Elks Lodge. Marc was always ready to share a joke or to thoughtfully engage in conversation. His laughter was infectious. He travelled the globe to places such as Australia, China and Europe. Marc lived and worked for several years in Jerusalem, Israel. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his extensive family and traveling to visit his many grandchildren. Marc was preceded in death by his brother Jack Adler and his great grand-daughter Mia Dodge. He is survived by his wife Zenda Adler and sons/daughters-in-law-Joshua and Amy Adler of Seattle, WA; Donald Dalrymple; James and Anne Dalrymple of Cedar Hills, UT; John and Cathy Dalrymple of Henderson, NV. He has 19 grand children and 13 great grand children. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 11:00 am, at the Southgate 2nd Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1068 West Chandler Drive, St. George, Utah. Visitations will take place on Sunday, May 1st at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Boulevard, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again prior to services at the chapel on Monday, May 2nd, at 10am. Interment will follow services at the Tonaquint Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
