Helen Nelson Obituary

Helen Starr NELSON Helen Starr Nelson passed away on April 19, 2011 in Edmonds, WA. Born in Tracy, MN in 1924 to Merrill and Lurene Starr, she met the love of her life, Alton M. Nelson, while they attended Carlton College in Northfield, MN. They got married in 1945 as soon as Al returned from the war and thereafter moved to Seattle so Al could attend dental school at the UW. Seattle became their home for the next 63 years. For many years Helen managed her husband's dental practice and was also his dental assistant. She participated in the Seattle Milk Fund, played bridge with many friends, pursued her family's genealogy, raised their four children and enjoyed every minute of her life alongside her husband of 65 years. Helen was known for her sewing and counted cross-stitch projects, as well as the many letters written to family and friends over the years just to stay in touch. She has been deeply loved by all, and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Peterson, and sister, Margaret McLeod, and is survived by her husband Al, her three sons, Randy (Martha), Brian (Miki) and Philip (Debbie), nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren, as well as her brother, John (Nancy) Starr. A private graveside service will be held, followed by a memorial service for family and friends. The family wishes to acknowledge the kind and loving care that Helen received from the entire staff at Rosewood Courte during her final years.
