After eighty two years of bad puns and boogie woogie rolls on the piano, Herb Steuer passed away on 2/2/2013. While his health was poor, his death came as a shock. He was a good man who loved his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Helen Nelsen, and son-in-law, Jeff, and his grandchildren, Gregory, Stephen, and Jonathan, of Gresham, OR and his son, David, and his daughter-in-law, Barbara Shufro, and his grandchildren, Jacob, Emma and Zachary of Palo, Alto, CA. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Sydney (Anschell).
Born in Cleveland, Ohio to Judge Alfred and Nathalie Steuer. He was the third of four children. His sister Anne and brothers Joseph and Richard predeceased him. Growing up in Cleveland, Herb lived across the street from his future wife and was childhood friends with his future brother-in-law Grove Anschell who remained his friend for 75 years.
Herb graduated from Stanford '52, Stanford MBA '54.
His first job was with Naval Audit in Bremerton, WA. He then joined the IRS as an agent, first in Tacoma and then in Seattle, where he finished his career.
In later years, he enjoyed the community at Emeritus in Bellevue, where he was a frequent entertainer on the piano.
Services will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Butterworth-Arthur Wright Chapel. 520 West Raye Street (in the Queen Ann Hill neighborhood), Seattle, Washington 98119 on Tuesday, February 5th at 2:00PM.
