James (Big Jim) Helmick

James (Big Jim) Helmick, age 68 of Seattle passed away on 1 Nov 2012 at Highline Hospital due to complications following respiratory failure. Jim was a faithful friend to Bill W. for 38 years. The thing he believed in most was to help others in need. Jim was born in Chicago IL to Allen and Priscilla Helmick in March 1944 and graduated from Haugan Elementary and attended Lane Technical HS. He was married on 28 August 2003 to Karen Skold. Jim enlisted in the Army in 1961 and was a proud Army Veteran who served with the 4th Infantry Division. After discharge from the Army in 1964 Jim worked as a Machinist at Danly Machine Corp. in Chicago. Jim moved to Seattle in 1971 and worked at Weyerhauser Lumber Co., Todd Shipyard and Boeing Everett on the 777 airliner where he retired in 2001. Jim was a loyal Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He is survived by his loving wife Karen, daughter Debbie and Rob Rakestraw, Grandfather of Jessica and Lopaka Pagan, Great Grandfather to Devin, Christian and Ka'ili of Seattle WA. He was the loving brother of the late Cheryl Faymonville, Bill and Betsy Helmick of San Diego, Loretta Faymonville of Felch MI, LaVerne Faymonville of Phoenix, Phillip and Ami Faymonville of Chicago, Louise Faymonville of Foster City MI, Tom and Barb Helmick of Green Bay, Randy and Jackie Helmick of Brodhead WI, Gloria and Paul Rodgers of North Pole AK, Jerrie and David Whitford of Naples FL and Amy and Brock Pelham of Hobart IN. Uncle to his many cherished nieces and nephews. Jim's family will have a private Memorial Service with military honors at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent WA.
