Jerry was one of the first friends I made when I moved to Washington state (Renton) in 1983, we were both in our mid 20s. We'd go on drives around the Seattle and Hood Canal, and he'd show me great places to hike & camp. One time, a group of us went oyster picking on Hood Canal, and roasted them over a campfire. We'd go mushroom hunting a few times. He was kind and had a big heart. I think about Jerry a lot, wish I could talk to him again, and thank him for being a good friend.

Many of my most cherished childhood memories involved Jerry - hunting for WWII surplus treasures behind his house in the old Bryn Mawr gully and building camps and caves in that very same gully. Playing army all day long and staying out of the house when Jerry's Dad Hank was trying to watch football on the black and white TV or begging him to take us when he took off to the fire hall on an alarm. One of my favorite memories was when we played hooky together from Kindergarten! Although our paths didn't cross much as we went on about our adult lives, it was always fun to catch up when they did; God bless you Jerry, rest in peace.

My Dad, My Angel
Your battle is now over, no more tears flowing down your cheek,
no more pain, no more suffering, now you are no longer weak.
I still do not understand why this had to happen to you,
but I am proud to say you are my dad, the greatest man I ever knew.
Although you will not be here to walk me down the aisle,
when that day comes I know you will be by my side with a smile.
You were always there for me and never once made me cry,
until the day you closed your eyes and had to say goodbye.
Now you are my Angel, so spread your wings out wide,
please wrap them around me whenever you see me cry.
Our time together was memorable and God took you way too fast,
But the most precious thing to me was you being there for my first breath,
and me being there for your last.
