John Matsudaira Obituary

John T. MATSUDAIRA 11/26/1922 - 1/30/2007 John was born in Seattle, WA. At age 6 he went to live in Japan returning in 1935. John attended Maryknoll School and O'Dea High School until his family was interned in the Minidoka Relocation Center in Idaho. While in the relocation Center John volunteered for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and was wounded in action in Italy. After World War II, John attended Burnley Art School. He retired after 32 years with the Boeing Company. He painted in his spare time and was proud to have his paintings shown at many galleries including, Seattle Art Museum, Zoe Duzanne Gallery and the 1962 World's Fair. He enjoyed being part of the celebrated NW Asian American Artists. John is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Theresa, brother, Michael, and sister, Mary Elizabeth. John is survived by his wife, Lillian, sons, Paul (Maureen), from MA, Peter (Nancy), Gary, his daughter, Ann, and grandchildren, Joseph and Michael Yee, Kellie, Kimberly, Jaymi, Hana and John Thomas Matsudaira. He is also survived by his brothers, Tebo (Midge), Jim (Hisa), Sappo (Joyce) from CA, Mitch, Joe (Brenda), Vincent (Charlotte) from CA, Steven (Linda) Matsudaira, and sisters, Pauline (Mako) Yaguchi, Ida Matsudaira and Theresa (Wes) Kokame, and sister in-law, Barbara. A Memorial Mass will held on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 10001 57th Ave. So., Seattle, WA. A Reception will be held at St. Paul's immediately following the Service. Remembrances can be made to O'Dea Development Fund: 802 Terry Ave. So., Seattle, WA 98104, Maryknoll Fathers: 958 16th Ave. East, Seattle, WA 98112 or St. Paul's School: 10001 57th Ave. So., Seattle, WA 98178.
