Jonathan Roy Baker Obituary
Jonathan Roy Baker

Jonathan Baker passed away at his residence in Sunset Gardens Adult Home located in Renton, WA, on August 5th, 2012, from complications of pneumonia. His family is grateful he was able to spend the last year of his life in such a special, caring home. Jon was born February 20, 1924 in Allen County, Kansas to Guy F. Baker and Ada E. Kimmel. Raised in Sioux City, IA., he left school as a young man, to help support his Mom and siblings. Joining the Army in 1943, he saw combat action during the invasion of Normandy Beach, Fr., receiving several commendations for his service. A year and a day after D-Day, on June 7th 1945, he married his sweetheart, B. June Maranell. As they raised their family in the 1950s & 60s in Sheldon, IA., he became a skilled mason and carpenter, (which later in life his kids really appreciated as he helped all of them remodel their homes as their families grew.). In 1967, the family relocated to Renton WA, where he continued to work as a mason and then for King County Public Works from which he retired after 15 years of service. For many years thereafter, he enjoyed family visits and continued his passion for working crossword puzzles, collecting stamps and coins.

Jon is survived by his daughter -Barbara (Warren) Morrison; sons - Randall (Maria); Richard (Katie McEachern); Jonathan Mark (Diane Durnan); ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Jon was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, June; 3 sisters and 2 brothers. He will always be loved and remembered for all he did for his family and country.

Viewing (9 to 11 am); Services (11:00 am); Internment to follow at the Greenwood Memorial Park Funeral Home located at 350 Monroe Ave. NE, Renton, WA.
