Jose STRAZZARA Retired Lt. Col Jose Strazzara, US ARMY passed away February 1st, 2011 at the age of 87. Jose died peacefully in his sleep after a lengthy illness. Born January 20th, 1924 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Jose began his military career as a ROTC Instructor at the University of Puerto Rico. He married the love of his life, Marta on December 29th, 1951. Jose was awarded The Bronze Star Medal in 1969 for his service in Vietnam. After his retirement in 1972 he completed his studies at the University of Washington earning a degree in business administration. Upon his graduation he began his second career with the Washington State Dept. of Labor and Industries. And later, he began to volunteer for the Magnolia Little League as an umpire. Jose loved baseball, (the New York Yankees) and kids. He loved the community of Magnolia, he first moved his family to Seattle in the mid 50's for training and was stationed at Fort Lawton. After traveling the world with stops in Texas and Germany he relocated his family back to Seattle in 1967. Towards the end of Jose's life, Marta provided the care and love he needed. Jose is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marta, their six children and 10 grandchildren. Jose loved his country; 'Duty, Honor, and Country' was his motto. Private family memorial only. Our condolences to Jose's family. Jose's long involvement with and dedication to Magnolia Little League was greatly appreciated by all. He was a big inspiration to my sons Joel, Robbie and James with his support and kindness (they still remember the pocket candy he gave out in the dugout). As a parent, I feel honored to have had Jose as a Little League umpire; I have always addressed him as "Mr. Magnolia Baseball" over the years.
Regards from the Zimmermann family. May he rest in peace.
