Karen Ilene KING Karen/Mom/Punky/Nana Karen Ilene King was born May 21st 1949 in The Dalles, OR to William M. Powell and Lola Winnett Powell. Karen passed away Sunday with her children at her side. Karen was a spirited soul and known for her strong will and independence, and these two traits were never more evident than during her brief and courageous battle with leukemia. Karen grew up in The Dalles riding horses with her cousins and was surrounded by furry companions her entire life. She had an adventurous streak in 1975 she married Walter King and together they travelled to London, Greece, Belize, Mexico, and more but ultimately she was a home-body at heart. Karen was a member of the Seattle community for over twenty years where she raised her family, worked, played tennis and soccer, and spent time with her grandchildren. She recently moved to Pendleton, OR to be closer to her family and enjoy the quiet life. Working at Coldwell Banker over the last few years Karen forged many important friendships. I am proud to say that Karen was my friend & my tennis partner during the 90's. I have so many wonderful memories of the hours spent taking lessons, practicing & competing as well as laughing, lunching & playing. Karen was a fighter, a fierce competitor & so much fun. She adored her children & participating in their activities, she loved home & family. My time with her will always be special & I am grateful for that.
May you find peace & comfort in celebrating a life well lived and woman much loved.
God Bless, Polly Sorensen

As Karen's financial advisor, I knew her not long enough. I quickly found a woman who was at peace and content--every day. Early on I saw that Karen's nature was special. We discussed and planned together for her retirement this coming spring, and I was so impressed with her preparedness in every way, but especially, that what she had was not only enough but plenty, and finances were not going to drive her sense of peace and happiness.
I wish for all of her survivors that you have the peace and contentedness in life that Karen did.
Sending sincere condolences, Trish Howe
