Katharine Craig Obituary

Katharine Jean CRAIG Katharine Jean Craig passed away March 16, 2011 in Kirkland, WA. She was 89 years old. Katharine (Kay) was born July 22, 1921 in Wichita, Kansas to Warren James Hazeltine and Lena Belle Eagleston Hazeltine. She graduated from East High School in Wichita and attended Kansas State and the U. of Minnesota, where she majored in Home Economics. Kay married her high school sweetheart Lawrence E. Craig on February 14, 1942 in Wichita. They made their first home in Colorado, moved to Seattle in 1947, and settled in Normandy Park. They raised their two children and enjoyed many friendships in that community, where they lived for over 50 years. Kay loved being a homemaker and cheerfully volunteered as a room-mother in her children's classes. Her many hobbies and interests included sewing, knitting and collecting glassware. Larry and Kay enjoyed traveling together, especially to their favorite destinations of Germany and Hawaii. They could be found cruising on their boat, the "Lady Kay", into their 80's. Everywhere she went, she found it easy and enjoyable to meet new people - and their dogs. Above all, Kay took pride and delight in her cohesive family. The four spent winters skiing and summers boating together. Kay loved being with her grandchildren, and invited them individually for overnights at their house. Kay especially looked forward to family trips to Maui, where all ten relaxed together. She considered her family to be her legacy. Kay is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Lawrence Craig, their two children: Larry (wife Ann) Craig and Joann (husband Dan) Wilson and her four grandchildren: Lindsay Craig, Kelly Craig, Celia (husband Keith) Olson and Colin Wilson. Kay is remembered as outgoing, spirited and adventurous, and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her family suggests remembrances may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, Western and Central Washington Chapter (alz.org). Friends are invited to view pictures, share memories and sign the family's on-line guest book at: WWW.FLINTOFTS.COM.
