Lorna Josephine SWEENEY Lorna Josephine Sweeney of Eugene, OR. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 5, 2011. She was a proud 89. Born in Vancouver, B.C. on Aug. 29, 1921 to Gladys and Daniel McMonagle. Lorna grew up in Bellingham, WA where she met and married her high school sweetheart, William, on Jan. 13, 1945, while each was serving their country during World War II. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage. After the war they moved to Seattle, WA where they raised their four children. Lorna was a consummate homemaker, fabulous cook and dedicated mother. Eventually Bill's career allowed them wonderful years in San Francisco, CA and many world wide travel adventures. Lorna's eight grandchildren and three great- grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she was adored by them. Her gentle, kind and loving spirit is her legacy to her family and all those who were fortunate to have known her. She created homes where memories of beautiful gardens, wonderful feasts and family gatherings will be a great comfort to her family. She had an unyielding optimism, even in the face of great loss, and she continued to be a respected role model until her passing. Lorna will be greatly missed by her four children, William Sweeney, Jr. of Surprise, AZ, Douglas Sweeney of Allyn, WA, Patti Free of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Sherri Ross of Corvallis, OR, her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. On behalf of Lorna, her family wishes to extend our gratitude to her young caregiver, Hannah Anderson, for her generous and loving care. A family memorial service for both Lorna and Bill will take place this summer in Bellingham, WA. Memorial contributions can be made to Sacred Heart Hospice in Eugene, OR.
