Maggie O'Brien MATHERS Maggie O'Brien Mathers, born Marguerite Marie O'Brien, passed away March 31, at the age of 40 from Multiple Systems Atrophy, MSA. She was born in Altadena, CA December 16, 1961 to parents John Smith O'Brien and Joanne Dozier, both deceased. She attended Santa Barbara JC and graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Nutritional Biochemistry. After moving to Seattle, she worked at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and the Icos Corp. Maggie volunteered at her children's school, Montlake Elem, in the classroom and chairing the annual auction. She served on the board of the Capitol Hill Coop Preschool. Maggie was a gifted artist, working in mixed media, glass, paper mache and ceramics. She could do it all: wiring or plumbing the home, hanging a door, building brick steps, landscaping the yard or knitting sweaters. Family and friends were often invited to crab dinners to watch the parade of boats cruising the Montlake Cut. She is survived by her husband, Jack Mathers, their children Murphie, Hailey, and Cooper, her step mother, Susan O'Brien, her siblings, Bridget Youngdale, Kathy Alex, and John, Michael and Patrick O'Brien. The family extends their thanks to the loving support of the Lotsa Helping Hands group of parents from Montlake School and the neighborhood. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Planned Parenthood to a charity of your choice. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I had the good fortune of working with Maggie for years at Icos. We shared a lot of good times as well as stories about our kids. She was a wonderful person and I am greatly saddened to hear of her passing. My heartfelt condolences go out to all of her family, but especially to Jack and her children. I remember when each of you arrived in this world and the joy your mother shared with the news of her pregnancy with each of you. I pray that you will all find peace in your memories of her.
