Margaret E. AMES Born Margaret Serjeant on October 12, 1922 in London, Eng land; died November 10 , 2010 in Seattle. During World War II Margaret was employed as a booking clerk at one of the major main line railway terminals in the thick of the Blitz in London. She met and married a Canadian soldier, Leonard Ames. In 1946 she set sail on a ship full of war brides and joined Leonard in Alberta, where they lived on a small-holding farm. After Leonard's death Margaret worked for a while in Kamloops and eventually moved to Seattle, where she made her home for the rest of her life. She was employed, until retirement, at Laird Norton Company and its subsidiaries, where she served as corporate secretary. Margaret was an enthusiastic member of a hiking club, enjoyed golf, opera, and was a member of the Seattle Art Museum. She traveled abroad to Japan, Egypt and numerous places in the US, in cluding most of the national parks. Margaret was an avid reader but as her eyesight failed, she relied on the services of the Traveling Library division of the Seattle and King County library system. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seattle Library Foundation Bookmobile and Low Vision Services, 1000 Fourth Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104. At Margaret's request no funeral was held. There will be an informal gathering to remember Margaret on Friday, February 25 at 5:30 p.m. at The Continental Greek Restaurant, 4549 University Way NE, Seattle.
