Margaret Fern (Peggy) JAHNKE Age 89, was born in Devils Lake, North Dakota to Mary (Wilkins) and Charles Jahnke on December 31, 1919. The family resided in Rock Lake, North Dakota, where she attended school and was graduated from high school in 1939. She was graduated from Gray's Harbor Junior College in 1941 in Aberdeen, Washington and then attended business school. Her career in the insurance field, which was to be her life's work, started in her Uncle Frank Anderson's office in Hoquiam, WA. She next moved to Seattle and was employed by the Home Insurance Company. On November 19, 1955 she was married to Guy Straley in First Methodist Church in Seattle. They moved to Moses Lake, WA, where they both were employed. During their marriage they moved to Montana, North and South Dakota for Guy's assignments with the Boeing Company's missile defense installations. They later returned to Seattle and Peggy worked for Marsh and McLennan Insurance Company as an administrative assistant until her retirement. More recently she had lived at Daystar Retirement Village in Seattle. Peggy was an active member of the Highline United Methodist Church in Burien; she belonged to XYZ Club; and she was an enthusiastic volunteer at the theater productions at Arts West. She enjoyed collecting antiques, doing needlework, her travels to Europe and Singapore, and camping with Guy in their motor home in the Pacific Northwest. But most of all she enjoyed people, from her family to all those she encountered. She met the world with a smile and perhaps a humorous quip. We'll all miss you, our dear Peggy. She is survived by a grandson, Richard (Jen) Straley and two great grandchildren, Cole and Chandler, Tacoma, WA; four sisters: Charlotte Hovey, Albert Lea, Mn., Ila Coon (Harvey), Buffalo, N.D., Marrion Walsh, Moorhead, Mn. And Norine (Lowell) Lussenden, Rock Lake, N.D., nine nephews and nieces, and numerous cousins. Memorial services will be held Friday, January 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at Highline United Methodist Church, 13015 - 1st Ave. So., Burien, WA. Memorials may be directed to her church, of which she was a member since 1979.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
