I googled Marty's name this morning (2/27/11) hoping to make contact with him after about 35 years. I knew him when he was a kid and I was a bookstore manager in Pullman working for a local Christian ministry. I'm no longer a Christian but of all the people I ever came into contact with in my life, Marty certainly came the closest to living that ideal, even as a teenager. I just wanted to say hi to him and tell him I think of him from time to time. I am grateful to simply have known him. He knew how to love unconditionally, a very rare trait indeed.

We all lost a beautiful man. Joanne, he has touched us all and is a part of my life I won't forget. I met him at work in 1986. He was my mentor and then a friend. He found my first house and you welcomed me as your neighbor. It was wonderful having your family as a neighbor for over a decade. He could always provide suggestions on improvements I could make or would have ideas I could use to improve my life. He did that for all of us. You married a beautiful man I am so sorry that you, Phillip, and Laura have to experience this change in your lives so soon. I and so many others will miss him but know that our memories and experiences with him come with wonderful feelings too. He is such a wonderful addition to my life experiences. Take care Joanne along with your family..... and, you too Marty! Thank you for everything.

My sincerest condolences on Marty's death. I will always remember him from Bible class at Messiah. He was a wonderful Lutheran and Christian man. I'll be happy to see him again in heaven. May the Lord comfort you and your kids, Joanne, in the days and months to come with the knowledge that Marty is at home with Jesus.

Our sympathies to Joanne, Philip, Laura along with Marty's extended family and lovely parents.

Marty was a good "bud" of mine, a special friend whom I will miss very much in this life. He always amazed and gifted all of us at Messiah with his consistent good cheer, generosity of spirit and warm thoughtfulness, which endured even when he was bothered by health issues.

Marty was amazingly affable and cheerful with everyone he came in contact with, I believe, because of his enduring and inspirational faith in God and salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ.

We grieve because we will miss Marty but rejoice in the Lord's promise of seeing again in the hereafter.

We will miss you Marty, for now, brother.

In His Love,

Barb (Krook) Peless

I was blessed to be in a church where Marty was a member. He always had so many intellectual comments to share in Bible class. We will miss him, but see him in the resurrection. Carol Johnson (Messiah Lutheran Church member)

The last time I saw Marty he was @ Harborview.Joanne was there with him and we shared a relaxing 1/2 hour joking about his kidney dialysis and his anticipation of corrective spinal surgery. We had few doubts that he would eventually return to health. It was so typical of Marty to be positive about his future. As sick as he was he and Joanne were joking and sharing an intimate verbal exchange so typical of him toward his loved ones. I will remember him as a Chritian soldier who fought the good battle and is now with his Lord Jesus.Kathy & Ed,Joanne,Phillip and Laura:may your faith keep you strong
and Marty's memory a comfort to you all. Cheryl Gagne.fellow member of Messiah Lutheran Church

Marty was all heart. I never met anyone who could be so positive in just about any situation he faced. He would give anyone the shirt off his back and help anyone that needed it. I remember him helping me move. He was a strong boy back then. He babysat our kids when they were young and they remember him as well. At the birth of my second child, he brought flowers to my wife in the hospital (I didn't) and Tracy will never let me forget how Marty was more thoughtful than I was. He had his share of struggles in life, but compared to how most of us would handle them, he seemed to breeze through all those issues. All of us in our family will miss him.

We thank God for Marty who was a witness to God's grace in Jesus Christ in so many ways...........we look forward to our reunion on the day of the resurrection...........Pastor Lassman, Messiah Lutheran, Seattle

We worked with Marty at Boeing, We enjoyed talking to him so much, as well as my husband & I would help him, I'd get water for Marty & Chuck my husband would get his van for him as it was hard for him to walk to far. We'll miss him very much as he was such a kind gentle man & always talked about how wonderful his family was & he'd also say how much he appreciated what his wife & children did for him. He would always speak with great respect of his family.
Marty was one in a million.
We'll miss him.
