Mary C. (Merrick) WILLIAMS|
Mary C. (Merrick) Williams died November 28, 2012, at Northwest Hospital in Seattle. She was born on November 19, 1920, to Thomas and Anna Merrick who were Irish immigrants. Mary was a lifelong Seattle resident and attended Immaculate High School and Seattle University.
While working at the phone company in downtown Seattle, Mom's friend and coworker, Ruth, introduced her brother Bob to Mary. Mary and Bob married on October 24, 1947. She was a stay-at-home mom for several years until the youngest of her four children was of school age. At that time she went to work for the Department of the Navy in the finance division at Sand Point Naval Air Station in Seattle. After their retirement Bob and Mary traveled to many places: Ireland, England, France, Italy, Greece, Spain, Australia, Brazil, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
Mom was an active and vibrant member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Seattle and St. Hubert's Parish in Langley. She spent many years volunteering at Our Lady of the Lake School, where she was a room mother and helped with various other activities, and was active with the church guild. Mom loved to garden; her front yard - a riot of color in the spring - was a testament to her green thumb. She enjoyed spending time at the family cabin at Witter Beach on Whidbey Island, and she greatly enjoyed baking. Grandma's pies, chocolate cake and Christmas cookies were enjoyed by all.
Mary was the loving mother of Anne Dashiell (Spike) of Severna Park, Maryland, Gary Williams (Ellen) of Woodinville, Patty Williams of Everett, and Larry Williams (Chris) of Seattle; grandmother of Emily, Jake, Kyle, Heather (Patrick), Gretchen (Cory), Matt, Jeff, and Sierra; great grandmother of Anika, Gavin, Nathan, Bridgette, and Juliana; and aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her family and her many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Bob K. Williams, her brother H. Joseph Merrick of Seattle and her sister Margaret Shoul of California, her sister-in-law and very dear friend Ruth Johnston, and sister-in-law Katherine Ellsbury.
Memorials may be sent to Our Lady of the Lake Parish or St. Hubert's Parish.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 8900 35th Avenue NE, Seattle, Washington, on December 11, 2012, at 11:00 AM.
