Mary Jo DVORAK Mary Jo (Forsell) Dvorak slipped away peacefully on May 18, 2011 following a short illness, succumbing to an aggressive form of colon cancer. She was a lifelong Seattle resident, born on May 5, 1926. She is survived by her husband George Dvorak, children Carolyn Nielsen and Frank Dvorak, their spouses, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Josie, as she was known to her friends, graduated from Montlake Grade School, Garfield High School, and the University of Washington. She and George married on July 8, 1947. Mary Jo was a talented musician who played piano and flute. She loved folk dancing and all outdoors activities, especially skiing, hiking, and bicycling. She enjoyed bird watching, wildflower study, lakes, seashores, mountains, and working and relaxing at the family's Whidbey Island 'Farm'. She was an over 60 year member of University Congregational United Church of Christ and P.E.O., devoting a lifetime of service to both organizations. When her children were young, she was a Girl Scout and a Cub Scout leader. Later she served on the Church's Child Care Board. Mary Jo was an avid traveler. Traveling together, she and George visited all 50 states and all 7 continents. A service in her memory will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 2:00 PM, at University Congregational UCC, 4515 16th Ave. NE, Seattle. Mary Jo will be missed and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. She was always so great to work with. Always forthright and honest with her opinions and always ready to lend a hand (or two, remembering the times she accompanied my singing with her piano playing). The world is a better place for having had her in it.

George, I please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. I always enjoyed talking with Mary Jo when she was in our office. What an amazing woman she really was. May the God of all comforts wrap his loving arms around you and your family and grant you a measure of peace and comfort today and in the days to come.
