Mary Barrat Obituary

Mary Touriel BARRAT Mary Barrat passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the age of 92. She was born in Seattle, Washington on April 23, 1918, the only child of Mazaltov and Eliazar Almeleh and graduated from Garfield High School in 1936. Mary married Joseph Touriel, on June 14, 1942, and they were together for almost 32 years until his death in 1974. They had four daughtersâ€"Anne (Allen) Gordon, Marlene (Mark) Gumbiner, Sandra (Lance) Korb and Elaine (Mark) Ross. After Joe's death, Mary was fortunate to remarry Alec Barrat. She loved being around her four grandchildren, Jay, David, Sam and Jaime and five great-grandchildren, Sophia, Gaby, Mateo, Danny, and Giovanni and was close to her stepson, Syd Barrat. She also had a step-daughter, Barbara Solomon. Mary loved to travel and enjoyed talking about her vacations in Europe, South America and Asia. All who met her loved her personality and good humor. She was a wonderful homemaker who specialized in Sephardic baking and cooking. Most of all, she was a very determined individual who set a strong example for her daughters. She will be missed greatly by her family with fond memories of special holidays and cruises the family enjoyed together. Services will be held at the Seattle Sephardic Brotherhood Cemetery at 1230 North 167th Street and Aurora Avenue in Shoreline, Washington on Friday, April 1st at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Kline Galland Center at 1200 University St. Ste 100, Seattle, WA 98101-2883 or Seattle Chapter Hadassah at 515 116th Avenue NE, Ste 131, Bellevue, WA 98004.

Mary became a friend to all those that she would meet, even if only crossing paths for a short interlude.
She was a joy to be around and a proud matriarch of her family.
She will be greatly missed by the many lives that she touched.
