Masaru Hamada Obituary

Masaru HAMADA Masaru (Mas) Hamada, born in 1925 in Seattle, WA, to Mashiye and Zentaro Hamada, passed away unexpectedly on April 30, 2011. During WW II, Mas and his parents spent almost 2 years at the Menadoka Relocation Camp. After the war, Mas went to live with the Reverend Philip Jenkins' family, who was helping to resettle Japanese Americans. He witnessed the love of Christ through their lives and became a Christian. Mas first worked in Seattle with the National Weather Service (NWS). There, he met and married Sadako (Jane) Akiyama, the love of his life for 61 years. In 1955, he moved to the NWS national office in Suitland, MD and worked there until 1983, retiring after 33 years of service. Masaru was a loving, loyal and dedicated husband and father. He was always concerned for the needs of others. Masaru was warm, kind, thoughtful and generous to those he met, knew and loved. This is why he is so deeply loved, respected and missed by his beloved wife Jane, son Michael and his wife Jung Hee, daughter Carol Fujii and her husband Leith, and six wonderful grandchildren (Christina and Alexandra Hamada, Joy Fujii Holcomb, Karin, Mark and Lani Fujii). The Hamada family is planning a memorial service and burial in Seattle, Washington in October 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made toward the earthquake/tsunami relief for Japan through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance https://gamc.pcusa.org/give/make-a-gift/DR000117/ (please add 'Mas Hamada Memorial' in comments).
