Masaru Karry Sakamoto

Masaru Karry Sakamoto was born February 9, 1941 in Toppenish, Washington.

The fifth child to Bunnosuke and Miyoko Sakamoto.

He passed away February 8, 2013. He is survived by Collin (Christine), grandchildren Theodore and Gretchen; Jarrod; and Andra (Paul) Goto; siblings Ben, David, Carolyn Kunihiro, Kengo, Elaine (Martin) Herbach, Arlene (David) Holliday, and brother-in-law Gerald Quintua. A number of nieces and nephews, first, second, and third cousins of an extended family.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife Leah Miyahara, sister Linda Quintua, brother Ray Sakamoto, sisters-in-law Marianne and Alyce, and brother-in-law Tetsuya Kunihiro.

During World War II (1942-45) the family including his grandmother and three uncles were interned at Portland Assembly Center and Heart Mountain Wyoming WRC. His father was interned at Fort Missoula, Montana for a year before rejoining the family at Heart Mountain. After internment the family returned to the Yakima Valley to farm.

Karry graduated from Wapato High School in 1959, and graduated from Central Washington State College in 1968 with a BA in Marketing and Industrial Technology. He retired from Northwest Administrators in 2007. He was a long time member of the Seattle Buddhist Church and its many affiliated organizations, serving in many capacities.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1:00PM at Seattle Betsuin Buddhist Church - 1427 South Main Street, Seattle 98144.
