Meagan MacPHEE Sparkles, color, books, parties, conversations and dear ones defined this remarkable woman. Meagan was filled with warmth and love and she had a rare gift for making and keeping friends. She left us at the far too early age of 50, struck down by metastatic melanoma. She put up a year and a half long battle against this terrible cancer, endured many treatments and insults to her brain and body, yet retained her wit, warmth, empathy and charisma to the end. An artist and lover of books - Meagan's life was her canvas. She worked on illuminated manuscripts - an unfinished project of illuminating Milton's Paradise Lost was her magnum opus. Her house and garden were unique and beautiful and evidence of her talent. A woman of intellect, she loved her book club, her muse group (a collection of artistically talented women), her walking friends, and most of all, her boys. Meagan was the proud mother of two wonderful sons and a partner of 24 years to her husband. Meagan adored parties, friends and conversation. She threw a masked, period costume ball for her 40th birthday. She organized salons at her home on important topics of the day with great food and a beautiful table set with her prized china, silver, and linens. Potluck dinners with close friends at her house on Decatur Island were treasured. She organized annual Christmas parties with people dressing up in various themes. She was not without her faults. She was an "aerobic worrier" - and that was as much exercise as she felt necessary. In recent years she did come to find that walking was an acceptable form of exercise, if only for the fact that you could talk with your walking partners the whole time. Meagan was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and the University of Washington. She leaves a rich network of family and friends. Her immediate family - her husband, Nick, sons Riley and Casey, and her beloved dogs, Daisy a great dane and Lucky a beagle are filled with profound sadness at the loss of this marvelous and talented woman. She was a loving daughter to her father John (Gail) and her mother Marilyn (Roger); a devoted sister to Terri, and loved deeply her step-sister and many step-brothers, brothers & sisters in law, cousins, nieces & nephews and "created family members".A celebration of her life will take place soon. Donations in her name may be made to her favorite causes - the University of Washington Special Collections Library, Rainier Scholars, and The Dr. Henry Kaplan Research Fund at the Swedish Hospital Foundation. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
