Michael Joseph Griffin|
Michael Joseph Griffin was 74 years old when he passed away on July 2nd, 2014 after beating the odds and surviving with cancer for fifteen years. Mike was born in Portland, Oregon on October 3, 1939. His early years were spent in Oregon, Tennessee & North Carolina before the family settled in West Seattle, where Mike would spend the remainder of his life. Mike gained his adventurous spirit from his parents; fishing, traveling and gardening were instilled in him as Griffin family values.
Mike graduated from Seattle Prep and Seattle University. While attending Seattle U he was introduced to his "sweetie", Joanne Audett. They were married on August 8th, 1964 and over the years they had five children. A loyal man, Mike spent 30-plus years working at Alki Lumber in West Seattle until his retirement in 2002.
In 1999 he was diagnosed with prostate cancer but not even that would slow him down. He carried on well past the two-year life expectancy and fully enjoyed his "bonus years" with his family and friends. Though a devout Catholic, he could never resist a little honest mischief - whether it was doing "donuts" in the snow in his Jeep or sneaking in a surprise visit to one of his family or friends (Mike was the king of the "drop-in" visit).
Mike is preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Audett Griffin, and his parents; Gilbert & Esther Griffin.
Mike is survived by his children; Christine Terry, Jeff Griffin, Shelly Lounsbury-Griffin, Kerry Griffin & Beth Griffin-Nardo & his sisters; Patricia Carr, Donna Jordan & Judy Sweeney. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, fishing & hunting buddies, old friends, new friends, and his dog "Chief".
"All I ask of you is forever to remember me as loving you." -Gregory Norbet
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in West Seattle on Monday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. Donations in Mike's honor can be made to the Rivkin Center via marsharivkin.org.
