Monty Noboru Carter Obituary
Monty Noboru Carter

Age 43. Born May 7, 1969 in Okinawa, Japan, Monty grew up in Kalispell, Montana and had resided in West Seattle since 1996; he died July 8, 2012 in a swimming accident in the Wenatchee River in Leavenworth. He is survived by his mother, Kazuko Teruya Carter of Seattle, and his father, James Livingstone Carter of Montana.

A graduate of Flathead High School, Montana (1987) with a Bachelors of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of Michigan (1991) and a Masters of Music in piano performance from Yale University (1993), Monty was not only an accomplished musician/composer but was, as well, an inspiring teacher, a much-beloved basketball coach, avid hiker, world-traveler, fearless adventurer, gifted photographer, talented singer, and keen comic book and panel collector.

A stalwart man of many gifts, he touched many lives with his generosity and grace. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service for Monty will be held at Lakeside School's St. Nicholas Hall, August 5, 2012 at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Monty Noboru Carter Memorial at any Key Bank.
