Nell LENHART Nell, 78, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Tacoma General Hospital from acute pulmonary and cardiac arrest. Nell was born Dec 18, 1933 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Melvin & Goldie Steele. She had a sister Violet & a brother Virgil. Nell loved music. She started singing in her father's dance band when she was 11 and started playing the piano in the band when she was 13. She graduated from Scottsbluff H.S. in 1951, & Scottsbluff Jr. College in 1954 where she met Herb Lenhart. Nell & Herb played in a dance band called the Swing Kings. Nell graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1956 earning a BA in Education. She married Herb Lenhart Aug 5, 1956 in Scottsbluff NE, had their honeymoon & moved to Kent, Washington all within 4 weeks. Nell began working as a secretary at the Boeing Company, while Herb pursued an engineering career there. Nell then worked as a school teacher at O'Brian Elementary School before staying home to raise their 3 children. Nell was an accomplished musician. When the University choir presented the Messiah, she was one of the 10 soloists selected out of the 176 singers for that huge concert. She was the organist and pianist for the Kent First Christian Church for 35 years. She played for her church choir and hundreds of wedding & funeral services throughout the Puget Sound area. Nell & Herb frequently traveled back to the Nebraska area attending family & school reunions, including her recent 60th H. S. class reunion. She enjoyed reading a good book while her cat, Bandit, snuggled on her lap. She spent many days & weekends watching sporting events of her kids and grandkids. Nell is survived by her husband of over 55 years, Herb Lenhart, her children Dave Lenhart, Sue Treffry and Dan Lenhart and their spouses, 12 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her entire immediate family. A celebration of Nell's life will be held on Monday May 7th at 2pm at South Hill Christian Church located at 12311 151st Street East, Puyallup, WA 98374. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in memory of Nell Lenhart to any of the following: Calvary Community Church, Sumner, WA, South Hill Christian Church, Puyallup, WA. or World Vision, Federal Way, WA.
