Nellie Ann "Nan" Busby, 79, of Des Moines, WA, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. Nan was born in Doon, Iowa on April 28, 1934.
Nan was a pioneer in the chemical dependency field and dedicated over 45 years to providing treatment services to drug addicted men and women and their children in Seattle. She contributed to the political changes necessary to bring chemical dependency treatment services into existence and establish funding resources for these services. She touched thousands of lives during her years of devotion to the clients she continued to serve. Nan always believed that by doing the right thing you can overcome any obstacle.
Nan is survived by her husband Richard Busby; brother Don Weirsma (Ada); sons Jack Kilheffer (Linda) and Randall Kilheffer (Kimberly); daughter Sheri Healey (Deane); grandsons Jesse, Jack Jr, Brandon and Brett Kilheffer; granddaughters Kendyl & Keagan Healey, and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 30th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Bonney Watson in Seatac. A private graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m on Friday, January 31st at Bonney Watson/Washington Memorial Park in Seatac. Nan's memorial services will be held on Friday, January 31st at 2:00 p.m. at John Knox Presbyterian Church.
