Otto Baumgarten Obituary

Otto Ernest BAUMGARTEN April 15, 1922 ~ April 21, 2011 Otto was born and raised in Vienna, Austria. Because he was Jewish, he and his parents were forced to flee their homeland shortly after the Nazi occupation in 1938. They settled in what was then called Palestine (Israel after 1948). In 1951, he immigrated to the United States, and started a successful appliance repair business in Seattle. He worked at that business until 1998. Otto married Florence Lear in 1958. After the birth of their two sons, David and Steven, they moved to Mercer Island. In 1984, Otto married Ronnie Woog. Otto was an avid hiker, skier, and tennis player. Otto is survived by his wife, Ronnie of Mercer Island; sons David of Tigard, OR, and Steven of Seattle; daughter-in-law Lori Baumgarten and granddaughter Kaitlin Baumgarten of Tigard, OR; his nephews and their families; Peter Colett of Fresno, CA, Cary Colett of Santa Rosa, CA, and Chuck Colett of Sherwood, OR. He is also survived by his step family; Beth, John and Alana Zimmerman of Seattle; Adam and Leah Woog; & Karen Kent of Seattle. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
