We East Coast cousins were looking forward to seeing Phil at the next family gathering. It is very hard to accept that he is gone. I appreciate how faithfully Jean Bagnachi, Nancy, David, Jane and others kept us updated about his condition. I'm also forever grateful that I got to speak with him--his voice was always clear and sweet--unexpected from such a tall, well-built guy, but perfectly suited to his personality. I just wish he had had more years to enjoy his delightful grandchildren.

The day I heard that Phil had passed away, for no real reason, I took a slightly different route home – over the Old North Berwick Road in Lyman, the next town over. There used to be potato fields on that road and there still is a potato house – one of the partially below-ground types. I had heard that the retired farmer on the road had a 1958 John Deere Model 620, like Rush Brothers used to own, which had become Dave and Phil’s, but I had never seen it. I came around the corner and there sat the 620, a clone to the Rush Brothers’ 620, with a cart attached (though thankfully it didn’t appear to be a rock picking cart). This was quite striking and I thought it had to be more than coincidence. It brought back many memories of the old days on the White Settlement Road, and the potato, hay and oat fields and the Rush Brothers and their kids. Phil was a great guy and will be greatly missed. I understand the Rush Brothers 620 still remains on the White Settlement Road and will be a great reminder of Jimmy, Ruth and Phil.
