Richard Byrd Obituary
Richard Byrd

Passed away in Edmonds, Washington, on September 8, 2018. He was born in Salem, South Dakota on June 24, 1937. Richard moved to Seattle with his parents during high school and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army and it was during this time, while stationed in Germany, that he met Theodora (Thea) Van Houtum in Holland. He was proud of his career as a Seattle Fire Fighter. Richard enjoyed many years of retirement, traveling with Thea in their motorhome and spending time with his grandchildren. Richard and Thea eventually settled in Lynnwood, Washington, where he lived the remainder of his life. He continued to be an avid reader and he loved to play cards throughout his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Theodora; their children Norman, Kathleen, and Michael; and 4 grandchildren Nico, Thea, Brandi, and Jake, as well as many other friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his siblings Maurice, Robert, Dolores, and Marjorie.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 11am at Evergreen Washelli, 11111 Aurora Ave, N, Seattle, WA 98133.
