Richard "Dick" Splitstone, 64, died at his home in Bothell, Washington, June 4, 2017. Dick was a mentor to radio and television journalists throughout his 37-year career and became friends with all who crossed his path.

Dick was born Oct. 2, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio. His career took him to radio and television stations throughout the U.S. and finally to the Pacific Northwest in the 1990s.

He worked in the early 1990s at KIRO-TV in Seattle but spent his last 16 years at NorthWest Cable News. In addition, Dick served on the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) since 2004 in a variety of committee and officer roles. He was president of the Northwest Chapter for five years. Dick spent three years as chair of the Presidents' Council and was Presidents' Council representative to the NATAS National Executive Committee.

Dick is survived by his wife, Margaret Douglas, in Bothell, Washington, and his brother, Douglas Splitstone, in Murrysville, Pennsylvania.

A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m., June 17 at Brightwater Center, 22502 State Route 9 SE, Woodinville, Washington. Contributions may be made to the NATAS Northwest Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 58530, Seattle, WA 98138-1530.
