We just returned from a trip out of country and we were deeply saddened to learn of Dick's passing and our not being here for the memorial. As the Edmonds Chamber 4July Chairman, I had the pleasure of working with Dick for the past ten of his 37 year history with that event as well as many other community committments. He will be missed but his memory will live on. As Chamber President, I can state that the chamber will be honoring Dick's memory in an appropriate manner in the upcoming 2011 4th of July program.

When I first started in Edmonds, when an officer wanted a day off he/she had to find someone to work for them. I can not recall Dick ever saying no to me or anyone when he was asked if he could work for them. He was a very giving person to our department and community. He will be missed.

Dick was a joy to be around, always quick with a smile and a funny story. I remember his eager, and always welcome, offers of extra motorcycles for the July 4th parades (none of which he missed for as long as I was there). The first to step up for assignments nobody else wanted, and the last to leave if there was still work to be done, Dick was one of the most dependable Reserve Officers I ever had the pleasure of working with. I know he'll be missed by all who knew him.

Dick was one of a kind. His smile, handshake and caring attitude will be missed. He was always ready to help, no matter what the task.
A true friend and a huge loss to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Dick you are already missed! Your absence will only grow come this summer at the Ferry Terminal. Who else can we count on to be the rover?!? I will miss your smile and positive attitude. Rest in peace friend!

Dick never failed to greet me with a big smile, a caring handshake and genuine inquiries about my family. He was one of the most giving men I've known; of his time, his energy and his attention. His devotion to the Edmonds Police Department and the community he served for the last 37 years as a Reserve Officer is unrivaled. You've left this a better place through your unselfish, caring committment and I know that you are now in a better place as well Dick. Thank you for all you've done, for us and for me; you're very missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out the Dick Anway's family and friends, dealing with his loss in our lives. Dick was one of the old school police officers, who welcomed me when I was a young officer and treated me with friendship and respect for over 20 years. His sense of humor was always a relief and icebreaker in stressful times. He will be truly missed....Mike Bower & Family

Tricky,
I have worked with you for the last 25 years and you are very special to me. Through good times with laughter to the rough ones with the temper tantrums. I am sure missing you! One of my favorite memories is when you were working Ferry Traffic and I went to visit you with my daughter in a stroller. I had you push the stroller for a minute and you were looking over your shoulder making sure no one saw you with a baby. It was pretty funny! Until we meet again...Fran
