Richard HARTWELL Richard Scott Hartwell was born on Christmas day 1920 and died at home on April 21, 2011. Richard graduated high school at 16 and enrolled in Harvard University. While pursuing his graduate degree at Harvard Business School, he joined the navy as a Lt.serving in the South Pacific during WWII. After the war he returned to Oak Park, IL where he met and married his wife of 66 years, Roberta (Bobbie) Hansen. After completing his graduate degree Cum Laude, the family moved to LA, where he worked in retail management. Work with Meier & Frank then took the family to Lake Oswego, OR where Richard enjoyed many years living on the lake, boating and sailing. His career took him to the West Indies to develop an island, and then finally to Seattle where he became the executive Vice-President of Bardahl Oil. He and Bobbie traveled around the world many times for Bardahl, enjoying fabulous glimpses of life in new places. In 1981 he was named World Trader of the Year by the Seattle World Trade Club for developing trade with mainland China. Christmas for Richard was always a celebration of family and his life will always be celebrated on this special day. He is survived by his wife and four children, Jocelyn, Brooke, Richard Jr. and Drue. His six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren brought him great joy during his last years. Along with his superior wit, he had great patience, wisdom and love. He will be missed greatly by all. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at his home on Clyde Hill on June 18 from 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Evergreen Hospital Hospice or the educational charity of your choice. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
