Richard Henry Obituary
Richard Henry

Richard Henry died peacefully on August 6, 2018. Born in 1921, Richard served as minister of Unitarian churches in Brooklyn, Knoxville Tennessee, Denver, and Salt Lake City before retiring in Seattle. He and his churches were known for their leadership on behalf of civil rights, women's reproductive freedom, peace, marriage equality, and civic engagement. Parishioners also remember him as a tireless and caring pastor, and as a preacher who challenged the intellect and championed the arts. Friends and family treasured his humor and his love of music, poetry, and travel. During his retirement he wrote two biographies, Norbert Capek, and Eleanor Roosevelt and Adlai Stevenson.

He is survived by his loving wife Pat, two sons, five stepchildren, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and thousands of adoring fans. A celebration of his life will be held at Horizon House, 900 University Street, Seattle at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 15. Contributions in his honor may be made to Planned Parenthood, Union of Concerned Scientists, or the American Civil Liberties Union.
