Rita Chegin Obituary

Rita Kasch CHEGIN Rita Mary Chegin was born June 23, 1917 in Ramona, South Dakota to Erick and Kathryn Kasch. She passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2003 at Stevens Hospital. She was 85 years old. She was a graduate of Ramona High School and received a bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University in 1982. She married John Joseph Chegin in 1946. They were married for 55 years. Rita was preceded in death by her husband John and her brothers Lloyd Kasch and Rev. John Robert Kasch. She is survived by her daughters Teresa Chegin of Seattle, Washington and Catherine (Harold) Stearne of Aurora, Colorado and her sisters-in-law Dorothy Godfrey of Richfield, Minnesota nd Anne Konkol of St. Anthony, Minn. and nieces and nephews. Rita grew up in South Dakota. She and her husband later moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. Rita worked for New Mexico State University as an administrative assistant for the Alumni Office for 18 years. She was also a published author who wrote the book "Survivors" about female pioneers in the Southwest and also produced a popular musical variety program for PBS station KRWG in Las Cruces, New Mexico. In 1997 Rita and her husband moved to Lynnwood, Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Mexico State University Scholarship Fund. Visitation, Wednesday March 5, 2003 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Beck's Funeral Home, Edmonds, WA (425) 771-1234 with Services in Madison, South Dakota.
