Born 12/7/1920, peacefully passed with family by his side on 1/3/2013. Bob was 92.

Bob was born Spokane Washington, attended Lewis & Clark High School,enrolled in WSU where he lettered in football and graduated as senior class president. While at WSU, Bob enlisted in the marine reserve in 1942 which granted him the opportunity to finish school. During this time he met his first wife

Virginia Smith.

In 1944 Bob was sent to Guadalcanal where he joined the 6th marine division. He also spent time Okinawa, and Guam before being sent to Tsingtow China in 1945 for the surrender of the Japanese.

At the end of the war Bob returned home, rejoined Virginia in Spokane and went to work for Bell telephone systems in 1946.

In 1950 he was called back to service during The Korean War.

In 1953 Bob and Virginia adopted Robert Jr. Bob got a promotion in 1954 and was transferred to Seattle where they bought a home. In 1956 they adopted Barbra Alice.

We lost Virginia to cancer in 1967.

Bob married Marilyn Bird in 1971. They had met while Bob was coaching little league football for her son Ron. Marilyn had four children; Rick,Ron,Robyn and Randy.

They had many happy years together, built several homes and helped care for their aging parents in their last years.

We lost Marilyn in 1993 to cancer.

Old friends were reunited when Bob ran into Dorothy Poirier later in 1993. They had originally met after Virginia's death in 1967. Bob and Dorothy married in 1995. They enjoyed traveling and went on several cruises to Alaska, and the Caribbean. They took many trips to Hawaii and all over the states visiting family and friends. We lost Dorothy in March 2010.

Bob stayed at their apt. in Merrill Gardens retirement home until January 2011 when he took a fall that landed him in the hospital for 3 months.

Bob moved to Roseburg Or. in April 2011 so his son and daughter in-law could assist with his recovery.

In November he met a very special person at his new home at Callahan Village. The transformation that took place in him was wonderfully amazing. I can't remember a time seeing him happier.

Bob is survived by his children, Rob Youngs, Barbra Whited, Rick, Ron & Randy Bird, Robyn Larson, Pam Engler, Peggy Phipps, Susan Arndt and Sally Betts as well as his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be held Sat. January 19 at 2:00 p.m. at: Evergreen-Washelli, 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle Wa. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to; DCVF Vet. Assistance Fund, 730 Indinola st. Roseburg,OR 97471.
