Bob Chernich passed away on Thanksgiving with his family by his side. He was born in Bismarck, North Dakota, graduated from high school then left to join the Army. He served in the Pacific until the end of WWII then returned to the Seattle area. Shortly after the war, he embarked on a successful 40-year career with Northwest Airlines, travelling the world and living at times in Alaska, Wisconsin, Georgia, Michigan and Florida.
The Pacific Northwest was always Bob's favorite place to live. After retiring, he and his wife of forty-five years, Carma Rae, returned to the Seattle area to be near their kids and grandkids. Bob loved to fly and cherished the time he spent with fellow pilots sharing their flying stories and recognizing each other's contributions to aviation history. He will be missed.
Bob is survived by his daughter Candace Gilliland (Mike), son Rob Chernich (Robin) grandchildren Garrett Gilliland, Alison Gilliland, Austin Chernich Lauren Chernich, and brother Jim Chernich of Chicago.
At Bob's request, there will be a family service at Tahoma National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to
