Robert "Rip" C. KIRBY Was born in Brooklyn, NY., on September 3, 1929, to Helen and Walter Kirby, and he passed away on December 3, 2002, at his home in Bremerton, WA. Rip Kirby attended school at Poly-Tech in Brooklyn, NY. and earned a Master's Degree in History. He joined the Marine Corps and fought in campaigns in the South Pacific during World War II and in Korea. He rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel in the Marine Corps and was awarded, among other medals and citations, the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for exceptional bravery in combat. Rip went into the out-of-print book business, first owning a store in Bremerton and then owning a store in Seattle and, later on, selling books through catalogs and book fairs. He became a well-known and respected bookseller among the Seattle trade and traveled extensively on the west coast buying and selling antiquarian and rare books. Rip is survived by his wife, Mary and by his children Andrew, Kenneth, Robert and Nancy Savage. Arrangements were made by Tully-McKee Funeral Home, 4841 Auto Center Way, Bremerton, WA.
