Robert W. "Bud" Olson

Robert Olson Obituary

Robert W. "Bud" OLSON Born in Columbus, North Dakota on May 23, 1918. Died on March 19, 2006 surrounded by his loving family. He spent his early years in Minot, North Dakota and learned to play all sports, including ice hockey on the frozen ponds. He hopped a freight train heading to the West coast when he was a teenager and settled in Everett with his Dad. His love of sports, especially basketball, opened doors for him and led to a full scholarship at WSU where he led the Cougars in scoring from 1938-1940 and was referred to as a "flashy ball handler". Bud joined the army in 1943 and served overseas during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. His love of people led to a career in sales. Bud loved the game of golf with his buddies at West Seattle, billiards, basketball, and a rousing game of cards. He had a warm smile for everyone he encountered and was always willing to help someone in need. Bud was a deacon at West Side Presbyterian Church and actively involved in his church family. He cherished his family and is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Eunice; sister Adair Nelson; sons Denny (Jenna) and Neal (Randi); grandchildren Jarrett (Paula), Bryce (Malissa), Melissa (Joe) Ulu, Erik, Lucas; and great-grandsons Nathaniel and Brock; and nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m., at West Side Presbyterian Church in West Seattle. Arrangements entrusted to Howden-Kennedy Funeral Home of West Seattle. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Bud's name to West Side Presbyterian youth or your local YMCA. Please visit our online guest book at www.Howden-Kennedy.com.

Eunie, Denny & Neal, I always enjoyed Bud during the times when our families would get together. He always brought a joyful spirit to our home. I wish I could have known about the memorial service, as I would have enjoyed hearing the stories about Bud and your family. I am sure he has been visiting with my Mom and Dad and having a great joyful time. Love, Rick & Darlene Barnet

To the Olson family,

I just got off the phone with my mother who described the wonderful memorial service held for Bud today. As I expected it was full of love, laughter and good memories. I wish I could have attended. I know Bud as the wonderful father-in-law of my sister Randi. The man with the smile for everyone when we gathered at Neal and Randi's home to celebrate one of life's occasions. I am grateful for his life and the love he and Eunice have passed on to their sons and grandchildren. I see Buds laughter in my nephews Erik and Lucas and expect with the help of the other grandkids it will reach around the world in generations to come. Love to you all.

Bud, was a great friend to me. I have known Bud all of my life. The good times at West Side and up at our summer cabin at Lake Howard. You could always get a big hug and a big fat smile from Bud. He was always happy and willing to help at a beckon call. He was a great friend to my family when we lost our father 17yrs ago. As a child I remember always looking up to Bud. I saw him when I was 25 again and I was still looking up to him. Bud is the type of person you could ask him to do anything and he would if he could. I will miss you Bud. Be good and next time you see Larry Fletcher and Jim Hawkins, please tell them that I LOVE THEM AND MISS THEM VERY MUCH. You are where you believed you would be all of your life. Have a happy eternity Bud. We will all miss you.

EUNICE,NEAL,DENNY AND FAMILY,

BUD WAS SUCH A DEAR FRIEND OF THE FLETCHER FAMILY JUST AS HE WAS TO ANYONE WHO HAD THE PLEASURE OF KNOWING HIM. I'VE KNOWN "BUD" ALL MY LIFE. HE WAS ONE OF THE FEW WHO ALWAYS CALLED ME BY MY NICK-NAME. ALWAYS KNEW WHEN BUD WAS NEAR, I'D HEAR SOMEONE YELL HEY "FLETCH". I WILL NEVER FORGET HOW MUCH LOVE THE OLSON FAMILY SHOWED OUR FAMILY 17 YEARS AGO WHEN WE LOST OUR OWN FATHER. BUD WAS TRULY ONE OF THE "GOOD GUYS" GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN. BUD YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE! OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU ALL.
