Roger Stubbs Obituary

Roger Franklin Stubbs

Former Washington resident Roger Franklin Stubbs (92) died September 21, 2018 at his home in Green Valley, AZ with his wife Carolyn by his side.

Roger was born on January 17, 1926 in Wichita Kansas to Albert and Flossie Stubbs. From an early age he was a hard worker, getting a job at a local dairy milking cows at 3:30am before school. He graduated high school in 1944 and attended Wichita University where he met his future wife Carolyn. In the summer of 1946 Roger moved to Seattle, Washington, followed shortly by Carolyn, and the two were married in October 1948.

Roger owned and operated Stubbs Highland Service and Towing on Aurora Ave. Roger's service station was known for offering great service; a clean space that put customers first. He was active in Rotary for over 25 years. He later co-founded Family Savings and Loan in Shoreline to serve the banking needs of the northern Seattle community. He served as chairman of the board and then bank president before retiring.

Roger and Carolyn spent many wonderful years boating in the Pacific Northwest on their Tollycraft yachts, as members of the Edmonds Yacht Club where Roger was Commodore and 2 term Port of Edmonds Commissioner.

They enjoyed their retired winters in Arizona where Roger volunteered for the National Forest Service finding and marking old, dangerous, abandoned desert mines.

Throughout his life, Roger focused on working hard, serving the community and loving his family well.

Roger is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Carolyn; his sisters Marilyn Williams and Carolyn Walz; his son and spouse, Ed and Karol Stubbs of Redmond WA; his granddaughter and spouse, Shannon and Brian Bach of Charlotte NC, and two great-grandchildren.

Dear Carolyn, Ed and family,
My heart goes out to all of you on the loss of your beloved Roger. Carolyn, I fondly remember you and Roger from the time that I was a little girl. You were such good friends of my parents, Merle and Phyllis Dihel. Roger made such an impact on my parents. He was the one that suggested and wisely advised them to purchase the health food store from his aunt and uncle in 1963. My dad was at a crossroads in his career and making that decision, with the support of Roger, positively changed the trajectory of my parents' lives and mine as well. I will be forever grateful for the wisdom and loving friendship that Roger gave to my mom and dad. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Sincerely,
Debbie (Dihel) Kirstein
