Roger Loschen Obituary

Roger Thomas LOSCHEN Roger passed away on April 3, 2011. Born June 15, 1932, in Sunnyside, WA, to Peter T. and Theta M. (Bussert) Loschen. His parents, brother Leslie R. Loschen, and sister Janice M. (Loschen) Miller, are deceased. Survived by beloved wife Patricia L. (Razzeto) Loschen; son Christopher T. Loschen, wife Alexandra Golden of Holliston, MA; son Matthew G. Loschen, wife Gretchen (Freed) Loschen (Jennifer and Heather) of Redmond, WA; and son Daniel P. Loschen, wife Lisa Richtmann (Peter and Juliette) of Winchester, MA. He attended UW on an NROTC scholarship and received his BA in journalism and his commission in 1953. He served in the Navy from 1953 to 1956. He worked on the copy desk at the Seattle Times, eventually moving to the feature department, the Sunday magazine and Rotogravure. His attention to detail and the intricacies of language was prodigious. He left the Times in 1960 to become director of public relations at Everett Junior College, where he worked 14 years. Later he was the PR officer for the YMCA of Greater Seattle and the Puyallup Fair. He was accredited by the PR Society of America in 1978, then served on the state chapter, fostering competence and ethics in the profession. After moving to Lake Forest Park in 1971, he served five terms on the City Council and one as mayor, 22 years in elective office. Later, he served on the Boundary Review Board to the end of his life. Roger loved young children, treating them all with the love that he showed to his own grandchildren. The depth of love and caring he shared with his wife over their 54-year marriage is an inspiration to us all. A memorial service will be held at the LFP Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 1:30 pm. The family would prefer donations to UNICEF or local children's charities in lieu of flowers.

Pat, heartfelt condolences to you and your sons.
In addition to talking about our shared love of Lake Forest Park and our belief in public service, Roger and I had many lively political conversations. I especially treasure our talks on Saturday mornings at "Democracy Corner," as we joined other members of Lake Forest Park for Peace in the belief our public presence would aid the causes of peace and justice. We will all miss Roger.

Pat, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, and missing the Memorial Service. Just found out today the sad news. I enjoyed getting to know both of you through Boy Scouts at LFP church. Both of you were postive people, always a smile on your face.
My thoughts, and prayers will be with you for strength during this difficult time.

I was so sorry to hear of Roger's passing. He was on the committee of citizens who recently installed a Peace Pole at the corner of Bothell Way and Ballinger near Lake Forest Park's "speakers' corner". I'll think of him every time I see it

It is only fitting that I add my deepest sympathy to the family of one of the finest men I have ever known. It is in every corner of his life and every meeting he ever had with another human being that one found the generosity of spirit and intellegence that framed his entire being. He taught us all a little more about what we already thought we knew and really needed his type of character to sharpen our beliefs. I will truly miss my involvement with him on the King County Boundary Review Board on which he was a long time member and a splendid contributor. My sincerest prayers to his family for peace and comfort.

I knew Mr. Loschen primarily through the stories Matt has told about his Dad . I admire his service to his country and his community, as well as his devotion to his family and his beloved wife. He will truly be missed. My heart goes out to the entire Loschen family.
