Roy Pirie, 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Snohomish, WA -- a Western in his lap and the TV remote in hand.
Roy was born on a small farm in Midland near Tacoma, Wa. -- the youngest of four siblings born to Royal Edwin Pirie Sr. and Margie Anne Williams. He graduated in 1943 from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, and enlisted that year in the Navy. He served during WWII in the Philippines as a Radioman Third Class attached to the sixth division of the first army/navy JASCO unit, and ended his service on the USS Bon Homme Richard in 1946
Roy married Frances J. Davey in Tacoma, Washington on April 23, 1946. They moved to Seattle where Roy attended and graduated from the University of Washington in 1949. They raised four children primarily in Lake Forest Park, and were happily married for 58 years.
Roy worked at Safeco Insurance Company for 37 years and retired in 1986 as Northwest Division Manager of Commercial Underwriting. In 1987 they moved to Lord Hill in Snohomish where he became a "Master Gardener" and cultivated orchards, berries, vegetable and flower gardens.
Roy is is predeceased by his wife, Frances J. Pirie, and daughters, Nancy K. Pirie and Jeanne M. Lyons; his brother, George Pirie of Grandview, Wa, and sister, Dorothy "Dottie" Bacior of Hayward, Ca. He is survived by his oldest brother, Robert Pirie (Dorothy) of Tacoma, WA; his oldest daughter, Susan J. Chiavelli (Dennis) of Santa Barbara, Ca; and his son, R. Michael Pirie of Snohomish, Wa. Roy leaves behind six grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Roy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, but remembered for his kindness and generosity of spirit, and his unique ability to make everyone who crossed his path feel special. His favorite song was "Accentuate the Positive." If a life could have a theme song, that would have been his.
