Ruth Margaret Bugge

Ruth Margaret BUGGE Born on July 22, 1917 and died at the age of 93 on April 24, 2011. She was the daughter of Norwegian immigrants and a life long resident of Ballard. After graduating from Ballard High in 1935, she attended Business College and worked as a secretary/stenographer. She married her beloved husband Ivar in 1942. World War II separated them for four years after being married for only three weeks. When Ivar returned from Army Service in 1946, they settled into their Ballard home on Dibble Avenue where she lived until 2007. She was blessed to come to know so many wonderful neighbors and to watch three generations of children grow up on Dibble. She lived her final years at Home Sweet Home, an adult family home, in Lake City. Patience was Ruth's middle name. She possessed a warm and generous heart, was the best of listeners and always thought of other's needs before her own. Her children and grandchildren were the joy and delight of her life. She was a dedicated homemaker and steadfast police officer's wife. An accomplished baker and an encyclopedia of gardening information, her cookies were legendary and her flower gardens a showpiece of gorgeous bloom from early spring to late fall. She had a green thumb for growing African violets and starting tomatoes. And she shared everything from the heart with family and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Ole and Tillie Knutsen, husband Ivar Bugge, siblings Alice Munsell and Lawrence Knutsen; two grandchildren Harald and Laura Brito-Bugge and dearest friend and sister-in-law, Mary Bugge. She is survived by her children, John (Emelia Britol) and Irene (Robin Maercklein), grandchildren Derek and Sarah Brito-Bugge; sisters-in-law Sophie Borden and Patricia Bugge; nieces and nephews including Nancy Ermert, Julie Millet, and Richard Munsell. The family would like to thank Mary Sittna and her dedicated staff at Home Sweet Home for the loving care they provided to Ruth. Her staff, the HSH residents and their families have become extended family including: Kathleen and Karen England; Gustiva Cartony, Evelyn Adkins, Linda Lisboa and her angel, Cris Maryhill. Heartfelt appreciation is also extended to the Providence Hospital Hospice Team who guided and supported all of us through Ruth's inspirational transition. Services will be held at the Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Avenue North, Seattle, WA on Monday, May 2 at 2:00 pm.
