I remember meeting Sally for the first time in Forks, WA on July 16, 2010. We had met, unofficially, on Facebook shortly after my trip to LaPush for the Whale Welcoming Ceremony. It was such a powerful and emotional experience for me that I had to write about it so I could get it out of my before I burst! I had posted a note journalizing my experience and she had read it and liked it very much. We became FB friends at that point. We had many conversations and had gotten to know each other more and more as the months went along.
We spoke much about the Quileute Days Festival coming up in July. She said she hadn't been back for a while and it would be kinda nice to visit family again! As July came around, Sally had decided she would go, but found out that there were no vacancies around! I had made reservations in Feb, fully anticipating on going to Quileute Days and my two daughters and grandson were to go with me, too. So I had a large room reserved. Well, as it turned out, my daughters could not make it after all, so I had this large room for just me! I suggested to Sally, though I know she didn't know me from Adam, that if she wanted to share this room with me I was more that happy to have the company. She agreed!
I got to Forks that day and my first sight of Sally was at the hotel. She was sitting outside our room enjoying the day waiting for me. I was so happy to finally meet her! We hugged each other and something just clicked! We just knew we would be great friends from that moment on!
We got into my car and headed down to LaPush for Quileute Days. Along the way we saw that there was some activity up at Akalat so we headed there to see what's up. She found some of her relations up there first thing! After spending time there, we headed to the Village. First we stopped by her Uncle Roy Black's house to say hi. He was very happy to see her after such a long time. We stayed and visited for a bit and took a few pics, then said we would see him later. That we had lots of visiting to still do! We decided to go to the Resort for some shopping. There were a few tables set up with things to buy, plus Sally wanted to go into the Resort to see what there was there. And while we were at the Resort, who should walk in but Gil Birmingham!!! He was Billy Black in the Twilight Saga! Wow! We got to shake his hand and talk to him for a bit.
After our wonderful experience at the Report, we headed down to my families home so we could park the car. Sally met my family and they just loved her! We spent a bit of time there visiting, but wanted to get out to see what there was to see. After the parade we headed to the community center area to check out the things for sale and eat. She found more of her relations throughout the day! We met with Uncle Ron, Brother Bob, Aunt Bev, Vincent Penn, Veronica Bouck and her family, Niece Nicole and many others! She really connected with many of family members! It was great to meet them all!
We bought some wonderful things from Nicole's table. She had some great Dream Catchers and of the AWESOME fry bread!!! YUMMM!! We subsided mainly on Salmon and Fry bread all weekend! Sally won a whole cedar baked Salmon from a raffle so we took it back to my families house to share. We had some; she gave some to Jill (my family) and the rest she shared with Freddie, the Honorable Mayor Chuck Toby and numerous passers-by. That is the kind of person she is! Caring and giving! After all the festivities and meeting many people, these exhausted girls headed back up to Forks to our room and just CRASHED! It was a weekend I know I will NEVER forget and I will always love my Sista Sally. We just hit it off and became such good friends. She will forever be in my heart! Peace and Blessings.

My first job after grad. from Lincoln, was pushing an old fashion popcorn wagon up and down alki beach. One day this beautiful girl with long dark hair, white bikini and a big smile came up to me. It was Sally and I was truly startled at how perfect she looked. we chatted for awhile and then went on with our day, me wondering how in 3 years in the same school I hadn't noticed just how beautiful and charming she is. The rest of the summer, when she was there, she would come up from the beach and visit always smiling and happy. On any givin day there were a couple hundred gorgeous women on that beach and then there was Sally. When ever I talk about my summer job at Alki, I always bring up Sally. She is the fondest memory, of many I have of that job and that summer. I was truly shocked and saddened to see she had passed away. I sincerly wish all of you in her family the best and I'm sure the love and joyful experiences you shared through her life will get you through these hurtful times. God bless Sally and you all.
