Seth McCallen Fulcher Sr.

Seth Fulcher Obituary

Seth McCallen FULCHER, Sr. 89, died February 24, 2004, four days short of his 90th birthday following a brief illness. Son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend, architect, painter, gardener, teacher, world traveler, community activist and writer -- all he embraced with a gusto and passion beyond measure. Born in Nashville, Tennessee on February 28, 1914, Seth's nomadic family settled in Yakima, Washington at the height of the Depression. Following high school graduation and a two-year stint with the Civilian Conservation Corps, Seth entered the U.W. graduating in 1942 from the School of Architecture. After working as a draftsman/architect with the Army Corps of Engineering, Seth enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps serving for two years in the South Pacific during WWII. Seth married Dorothy Knudson on Nov. 25, 1944 before heading overseas. After an honorable discharge Seth worked for FHA and built his dream house in Broadview. He opened his North Seattle one-man architectural practice in 1954 and maintained his office for 26 years while actively participating in the Greater Greenwood Community Council, Model Cities, Seattle 2000 Commission and AIA. After retirement, Seth volunteered and taught watercolor classes for 20 years at the Greenwood Senior Center, traveled the world with Dorothy, gardened, painted, tried his hand at fiction and op-ed, and sought to micromanage his adult children's and grandchildren's lives. Seth was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy, and is survived by his four children, Lora Roy (Jerry), Sharon Holt (Cory Gann), Anne Haug (Ken) and Seth Kelly Fulcher, Jr. (Jane) and six granchildren; siblings, Teen Shearer, Dick Fulcher (Dee) and Nancy Hallums; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. His vitality, his curious and voracious intellect and his undeniable charm captivated us. A Celebration of Seth's Life will be held at Haller Lake United Methodist Church, 13055 1st Ave. N.E., on Sunday, March 14, 2004, at 2 p.m. Remembrances may be sent to the Greenwood Senior Center, 525 N. 85th, Seattle 98103.

He is not forgotten and still brings a smile to our faces. WeI still enjoy a watercolor he gave us for a wedding present 52 years ago!

Uncle Seth is a favorite! I smile when thinking of many childhood memories with him and his family... Talking about travel and Lake Cavanaugh were some of the best in recent times. He will always have a special place in good memories.

We all love you... Julie and Tom Bolser and family.

What a lifetime! Nearly ninety isn't bad as longevity goes and Seth Sr. certainly packed so much quality into his days on earth. Condolences to the family. Have a delightful gathering/memorial celebration.
