Shirley T. Horton

Shirley Taylor Horton, partner, sister, mother, and friend, passed away on October 6, 2012.

Shirley was born in Los Angeles, California on February 8, 1929 to Roy and Sadie Taylor. She is survived by her loving and devoted partner of 25 years Bob Carr of Seattle and her brother Wayne Taylor of Roseburg, Oregon. She leaves behind her daughter Theresa Duer and her husband Greg Duer of Santa Ynez, California; daughter Katherine Horton, her husband Kiyoshi Ichimura and their children, Sarah Tsanokumo (Yuji) and Ken Ichimura, of Tokyo, Japan; daughter Susan Horton and her husband Gary Grinsell and their son, Aaron Grinsell, of Villa Park, California.

In 1979, she moved to Seattle where she drew upon her Master's degree in Counseling, serving as a court-appointed Guardian ad litem representing children whose welfare was a matter of critical concern and, for 15 years, as an intake volunteer with Youth Eastside Services of Seattle.

A talented artist, Shirley designed and produced handmade ceramic tiles and silk screenings. She loved music and sang with the Rolling Crones for years. She was an avid gardener, expert on native plants of the west coast, and regular visitor at Washington Park Arboretum and Seattle nurseries.

Shirley's family does not plan a public service. She can be remembered through donations to the and the Youth Eastside Services of Seattle.
