Sidney Engstrom Obituary

Sidney Leigh ENGSTROM February 19, 1923~March 20, 2011 Born in Chester, MT, he proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Africa and Italy. After military service, he graduated from Montana State University, School of Engineering. Sidney married Marion Joy Finrow December 1950. Although, not high school sweethearts, they attended Spokane High School together. They moved to Seattle in 1952 and raised their children in the Ravenna area. Sid retired from Boeing Engineering after 30+ years. He was active in Boy Scouts and, in his day, an avid skier, fisherman and golfer. The family home was the center for holidays, birthdays, even a wedding reception. He delighted in sharing stories of his travels in distant lands as well as life as a park ranger, rodeo rider, and rancher. Sid is survived by sons, John and David and daughter, Marilyn; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren. A small family memorial will be held Saturday, May 14. Please call John or Dave for details.

Sid was an important part of Boy Scout Troop 167 for many years. As I remember, he served as the Chairman of the group of parents, running their monthly meetings to keep the parents organized and efficiently supporting the boys in the troop. As a growing boy, I wasn't totally aware of all that he did, but I knew enough to understand how important his "background" job was. John and Dave were able to be active, sharing adventures with me.

May God bless all of the members of the family, and may the good memories sustain you now and always.
