Therese Marie (Harrington) DION

Obituary Condolences

Therese Marie (Harrington) DION Passed away July 27, 2010 just after her 85th birthday. She died peacefully at home having been cared for in her final years by her children who loved, admired, were inspired and delighted by her. Our hearts are saddened but grateful for the abundance of her life and the power of her legacy. Therese was born July 12, 1925 in Norwood, Massachusetts, to William and Rose Harrington. Her raw intellect, sparkling wit and 'joie de vive' distinguished her. She graduated number one in her class of 1946 at Simmons College, with a degree in Chemistry. After graduation she did research at both M.I.T and the University of Washington. She married Frank Dion Jr. in Seattle on May 15, 1948. They went on to raise twelve children, with sixteen grandchildren who were the pride and joy of her life. Therese worked for many years at the City of Seattle Water Department in computer drafting until her retirement at age 78. Therese was deeply spiritual and was a member of The Order of Franciscan's, Legion of Mary, and Sisters of Carmelite. Her unwavering faith sustained her throughout her life. She had a curious mind and a love of learning, instilling the same in her children and grandchildren. In later years she became an artist inspired by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. In her final years she applied herself tirelessly to writing a book of spiritual poetry. Therese stayed true to her Boston Irish roots remaining staunchly independent until the end, living in the home she and Frank raised all their children in. She was beautiful, compassionate, gracious and kind and had a wry wit that never failed. Even in her final days she could make her children laugh out loud. We miss her deeply but her beautiful spirit lives on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren and the many other lives she touched. Therese is preceded in death by her husband ,Frank, daughter, Katie, grandson, David Keaton and brothers, John and William Harrington. She is survived by her children, Terry, Frank , Mary Scurlock (Jim), Claire, Liz Dion-Douglass, Margaret Linker (David), Laurie Mapes (Jon), Joe Dion (Laurie), Tom Dion (Kelly), Janet Rosebrock (Alan), and Bill Dion (Beth); grand-children, Coque Dion, Becky Scurlock, Jackie and Katie Douglass, Matthew and Alexandra Linker, Sarah, Melissa, Lindy, and Casey Mapes, Ashleigh Dion, Marissa and Steven Dion, Nicholas and Anna Dion; sister, Clare Burgun; brother, Francis Harrington.
